Bas Verbruggen

Bas Verbruggen works with a growing archive of found images, documents, and objects. This act of collecting is not only the foundation of his practice, but also an artistic process in itself, in which meanings and contexts continuously shift.

The images—sourced from encyclopedias, manuals, and old scientific books—were originally produced without any artistic intent. By appropriating, reproducing, and rearranging them, he allows these materials to transcend their original function and gain new layers of history and fiction.
